ABSTRACT TITLE

Blueprint for a Quality School Based Oral Health Program

ABSTRACT SUMMARY

School based oral health programs (SBOHP) can show health improvement in student health status through various mechanisms. Participants will learn about Dental Quality Alliance’s work in advancing the field of performance measurement; Center for Disease Control and Prevention program that measures the impact and cost effectiveness of school based sealant programs and examples of how SBOHPs can use performance measurement to improve quality indicators, population oral health, and partner participation satisfaction

ABSTRACT DESCRIPTION

Effective school based oral health programs use recognized quality indicators to measure outcomes. This program will address various types of quality indicators that can be used for better measurement, better modification and better outcomes for school based oral health programs. For example, participants will learn about the Dental Quality Alliance and its work in advancing the field of performance measurement to improve oral health, patient care, and safety through a consensus building process. Targeted at the goal of addressing Prevention and Disease Management for Dental Caries in Children, this set addresses utilization, cost, and quality of dental services for children enrolled in public (Medicaid, CHIP) and private (commercial) insurance programs. Information will be provided about CDC’s program that estimates the impact and costs of School-Based Sealant Programs (SBSP). Data collected annually from 18 funded states track the progress of SBSP activities and provide an analysis of the impact and efficiency of state SBSPs. School based oral health programs can show health improvement in student health status by a variety of mechanisms. Participants will learn examples of mechanisms that can provide baseline data, and the status of disease management and prevention.
